Overview:

Language school Cambridge Centre was founded in February, 1999. Our main priority is preparation of our students for Cambridge examinations (FCE,CAE,BEC) and IELTS.
For teaching we use educational material published by Pearson Education (Longman), Cambridge University Press (CEF-graded) and Oxford University Press as well as our personally developed material - teaching manuals and practical guidelines, which are the results yielded by our several years’ work experience.
The school office is located in the centre of Novosibirsk, and our teachers have free access to the resource centre and the Internet in the teachers’ room.
Most classes are offsite in rented rooms in schools and other educational institutions, because we try to place students in groups not far from the place where they live or study.
We have 25 teachers of English on the staff and freelance teachers of other languages (German, French, Italian & Chinese). The average class size is 6 - 12 students. Foreign teachers (native speakers) teach students of advanced levels and give speaking practice classes to students of lower levels (PI-Int).

I work at Cambridge Centre as a native speaker of English. The school offers courses in English, German, French, Italian and Chinese , but by far the most popular course taken up by students is English. Students of English prepare ultimately for the FCE, CAE and BEC exams. There are 25 Russian teachers of English, usually they are quite young and enthusiastic and often very creative and committed to their work.
I found my classes a bit difficult at first, but as I 'grew into the job' I enjoyed myself more and more. The school provided me with a nice flat conveniently situated near the metro. Also, many of the teachers have helped me out with ideas and advice. The school has always been completely honest and decent in it's dealings with me. In particular, when I broke my leg at christmas they were very helpful- without this help I would have been completely up the creek.

The school has internet access and a well-stocked resource centre. The school is located centrally, but classes are held all over the city in rented schoolrooms or youth centres. This is a bonus for me as it means I get to travel all over the city, and each working week is different. I have my own high-ability group of students, and in addition to this I give speaking classes to all the other groups of varying abilities. Generally the students are teenagers, although there are also younger students and also adult students, and, once you get to know them the lessons can be very convivial and fun.

If you are looking for somewhere to experience life from a different angle, then I recommend Cambridge-Centre in Novosibirsk. After working here for an academic year, I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here.

Cambridge-Centre is probably one of the biggest schools in Novosibirsk, and in my opinion, one of the most professional and successful. The school employs Russian teachers, versed in communicative methodology and usually one native speaker. As native speaker, my classes were held in different areas of the city, but the metro, and wide bus network here meant that these areas were easy to access. Also, if the classroom was quite far away, the driver took me there.

Also, the school provided me with my own flat, and after signing the contract on arrival, I found that the school honoured this contract to the letter.

Being honest, it does take a little time to adjust to life here. At the start, I was alone, and the students usually need some "de-icing" time, but once they get to know you, they are interested in your life in their city.

There's a lot more that I could say about my time here, and about Novosibirsk, so if you have any questions about anything I have forgotten, then feel free to send me a little message and I'll get back to you.
